Thank you to Jim L and crew for another successful Saturday serving at the Gathering. Jim gathered with Sally K, Micki W and Mother Pippa to pack sack lunches for the people of Milwaukee. After putting together water, chips, fruit and cookies into a paper bag with a napkin and plastic utensils, the crew then assembled to-go boxes with fajitas, rice, lettuce, guacamole and sour cream. We distributed nearly 65 meals and had a wonderful time doing it. Our next time to serve at the Gathering is October 10, let Jim know if you are interested!
This Saturday is our second Adopt a Highway event. The forecast is 80 degrees and mostly cloudy, which should make for ideal work conditions. Please bring a pair of work gloves with you, we’ll supply the garbage bags and safety vests. It is a wonderful way to serve our community and keep our beautiful Wisconsin countryside looking lovely and trash-free. We will gather at 9 a.m. at the old Park N Ride on the southeast corner of Highway 67 and Delafield Road. I hope to see you there!
I am planning to take two weeks of vacation at the end of this month. Because of the challenges of Covid, that means that we will join the Diocese for worship August 30 and September 6 at 10 a.m. We will send you the details so you can join the service, but we will be back with an Instructed Eucharist on September 13. The following week, September 20, we are going to have a drive in service.
Now, I expect you have not been to a drive-in service before, so let me tell you how I expect it to go. People would drive to the north parking lot and park. We would pass out bulletins and then you would tune in to the service over your radio. Because you would be in your car, you would have many of the advantages of pre-Covid service. There is no need to wear a mask, because you’ll be in your car. You can join in singing with the hymns, because you’ll be in your car. We will distribute communion wafers to all gathered, which will be safe because I’ll use lots of hand sanitizer and you’ll be in your car. Additionally, you will have the added advantages of being able to sip coffee and munch on snacks during the service if you feel like bringing some with you.
As we turn towards fall, I hope to find other creative ways for us to gather together. If you have any thoughts or suggestions, please let me know.
Prayers and blessings,
